The Morris Township Committee hasn’t accepted responsibility for today’s problems, and hasn’t put forth a plan to address them.
We need a plan from our Township Committee to fix the problems worrying us: It’s too expensive to live here, quality of life is declining, there is too little municipal open space to buffer us, there are too few municipal parks, playgrounds and athletic fields, there is too much traffic and noise, it’s difficult and unsafe to walk or ride a bike along the roads, even in residential areas.
We need a Township Committee which takes responsibility for its actions and inactions The incumbents have drafted and passed all the ordinances 5-0, set the tax rates, drafted and voted 5-0 on all of the budgets and bonds, spent all the money, made all of the appointments to all of the boards , commissions and committees, and elected each other mayor for the last 11 or more years. For the last 33 years, they and a small number of insiders from their political party, have made all the decisions and spent all of the money.
Yet, the incumbent Committee does not take responsibility for the gradual decline in Township quality of life. Until they acknowledge and take responsibility for the status quo, they will have no interest in making a public plan for change. (That is not to say that there is a secret agenda which is being kept from the public.)
Without stated plans, there are no stated measurable objectives, for example, no objective to lower your taxes by a certain date or amount, no objective to cut spending rather than borrow next year, no objective to shift resources and focus to restore quality of life, no objective to acquire 50 more acres of open space within a year, no objective to meet the needs of our families for 3 more pocket parks, 2 more athletic fields, or to quiet the streets by 2008, no objective to repair the neighborhoods that they have allowed to be overdeveloped or which been have impacted by street widening or increased traffic.
